The Total Cholesterol test measures the overall level of cholesterol — a fatty substance essential for body function — in your blood. Elevated total cholesterol is a major, modifiable risk factor for heart disease, atherosclerosis, and stroke. It is a standard component of the Lipid Profile panel and one of the most important cardiovascular screening tests.
Key benefits of this package include:
What Does the Total Cholesterol Test Measure?
| Level / Result | Possible Interpretation |
|---|---|
| Below 200 mg/dL (Desirable) | Optimal cardiovascular risk — continue healthy lifestyle |
| 200–239 mg/dL (Borderline High) | Moderate risk — Lipid Profile recommended for full assessment |
| 240 mg/dL and above (High) | Significantly elevated — increased cardiovascular risk; physician review required |
| Below 150 mg/dL (Very low) | May occur with malnutrition, hyperthyroidism, or certain liver conditions |
Important Note: Total Cholesterol must always be interpreted alongside HDL, LDL, VLDL, Triglycerides, and cardiovascular risk factors (age, smoking, blood pressure, diabetes). A physician will assess your overall cardiovascular risk profile.
Why Total Cholesterol Alone Is Not Enough: Two patients with the same total cholesterol can have very different cardiovascular risks depending on their HDL and LDL levels. A patient with TC of 220 mg/dL but high HDL (60+ mg/dL) may have lower actual risk than one with TC of 180 mg/dL but very low HDL (30 mg/dL). This is why Medall always recommends a full Lipid Profile for complete cardiac risk assessment.
